Known For : Ted Kennedy was the last surviving son of Joseph P. Kennedy, Sr., the youngest brother of President John F. Kennedy and Senator Robert F. Kennedy. Ted Kennedy spent more than 40 years as a member of the Democratic Party and was known for his oratorical skills, he was also somewhat of a maveric supporting bills by both Democrats and Republicans when he believed they were the right thing to do. His career and hopes for running for President were severely damaged due to the 1969 Chappaquiddick incident ( the passenger in the car Mary Jo Kopechne died in the accident ) he was charged and admitted to leaving the scene of an accident. He was the fourth-longest-serving senator in U.S. history serving as United States Senator for Massachusetts from 1962 to 2009.
