She got her big break as a child actress ( 11 years old ) playing Priscilla in Lassie Come Home ( 1943 ) and the following year moved into the status of a star in the movie National Velvet ( Todays Video ) . Unlike many child stars due to her beauty, presence and acting ability she transitioned into adult roles starring in multiple movies including Giant, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Cleopatra, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and The Taming of the Shrew. Elizabeth Taylor was not only a box office draw and at one time the highest paid actress in Hollywood she also won critical acclaim including 2 Oscars. Her private life has never been truly private due to the media attention and she is renowned for her nine marriages including twice to Richard Burton.
